Statement from the Halifax International Security Forum Regarding the Attacks in Ottawa, Canada
October 22, 2014

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 22, 2014

WASHINGTON, DC – Peter Van Praagh, President of the Halifax International Security Forum, today made the following statement regarding attacks in the Canadian capital:

“I am saddened and angered by reports out of Ottawa, Canada today that its national parliament and war memorial were intentionally attacked.”

“The terrorist attacks in Ottawa will, sadly, create a new normal in the Canadian capital, and perhaps across the country. But Canadians are resilient and tough and will meet this challenge to Canada’s democracy head-on. On behalf of the security community from over 60 countries who gather annually in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to make the world a safer place, we offer our solidarity with the victims of this inhumane act of terror and with all Canadians.”
