November 16, 2017

Halifax, Nova Scotia — Halifax International Security Forum will be giving students from Dalhousie and Saint Mary’s University a preview of this year’s plenaries with a special public panel discussion on international affairs.

“The goal of the Forum is to enhance strategic cooperation among the world’s democracies. We do that by starting conversations between decision-makers and global opinion-leaders. By partnering with Dalhousie and Saint Mary’s, we are ensuring that tomorrow’s leaders have a voice in those discussions,” said Peter Van Praagh, President of the Halifax International Security Forum. “This city also plays an important part in the success of this conference, so we are always looking for new ways to further engage with the wider community.”

The panel, entitled The Future of Global Leadership, will take place on Thursday, November 16th from 7PM to 9PM in the McInnes Room of the Dalhousie Student Union Building at 6136 University Avenue. The discussion will be moderated by acclaimed journalist Tom Clark and will include Dr. Bessma Momani from the Balsillie School of International Affairs; General Petr Pavel, Chairman of the Military Committee of NATO; Jonathan Tepperman, Editor-in-Chief of Foreign Policy magazine; and, Nobel Peace Laureate Tawakkoi Karman, Founder of Women Journalists Without Chains.

“Dalhousie is honoured to co-host with Saint Mary’s University this first public event for the Halifax International Security Forum,” said Dr. Richard Florizone, President of Dalhousie University. “We strongly support collaboration and working with partners to have important conversations about the challenges facing our global community.”

“Saint Mary’s University has a long and proud tradition of global engagement and knowledge sharing, and this event builds on that tradition,” said Saint Mary’s University President Dr. Robert Summerby-Murray. “We are very pleased to partner with our fellow academic institution on this thought-provoking panel discussion and bring the conversation about the future of global leadership to Halifax.”

The Halifax International Security Forum is an independent, non-profit, non-partisan organization based in Washington, DC. The Forum is made possible by the generous support from its partners, including the Government of Canada, and the Halifax Canada Club.
