Halifax International Security Forum Congratulates Trudeau
October 20, 2015

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 20, 2015

Washington, DC—Halifax International Security Forum today congratulated Canada’s new Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the Liberal Party of Canada on winning Monday’s federal general election.

“We applaud Mr. Trudeau and his team for their outstanding campaign,” said Peter Van Praagh, President of Halifax International Security Forum. “And we look forward to welcoming Canada’s new government to Halifax International Security Forum next month.”

The 2015 Forum will be held November 20-22 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Now in its seventh year, the annual meeting addresses the most important security issues for Canada and for the world by bringing together leaders from over 60 countries.

“In a world where transitions of power are often marred by violence, instability, and fear, Canada again leads by example,” Van Praagh said. “Transitions of government driven by ideas can inspire the world.”

Halifax International Security Forum works to advance a modern vision of security by promoting greater strategic cooperation among the world’s democracies. By bringing together individuals who are on the ground facing consequential local threats, writers who challenge and influence the world’s thinking on security, and decision-makers who make the tough choices, new ideas are shaped.

“It is our judgement that solutions for a more secure and peaceful world begin with sharing ideas and experiences,” said Van Praagh. “Representing one of the world’s leading democracies, Canada’s new government is assured of an appreciative international audience this November in Halifax.”

Halifax International Security Forum is an independent, non-profit, non-partisan organization based in Washington, DC.
